AI is developing at extraordinary speed. For legal professionals and business leaders, keeping up with the developments that matter – and understanding their implications – is extremely challenging.
I work with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer) to produce Behind the Prompt, a monthly thought leadership newsletter that cuts through the noise to make sense of the global AI landscape. Designed for senior in-house counsel and business decision-makers, it brings together the latest developments in AI, exploring what they mean for legal risk and business strategy.
Objectives
Through the newsletter and editorial content, HSF Kramer’s marketing team aim to:
- Establish the firm as a trusted voice on AI through timely perspectives on developments shaping the global landscape
- Build and engage a substantial audience of senior legal and business professionals interested in the implications of AI
- Make complex developments accessible by translating technical, regulatory and commercial stories into clear, relevant insights
- Connect the dots between emerging trends across AI investment, regulation, infrastructure, safety and adoption, helping readers understand the bigger picture
- Extend the firm’s thought leadership through distinctive editorial campaigns that showcase its expertise in emerging areas of law and technology
My role
I lead the monthly research and editorial process for Behind the Prompt, identifying and investigating the most important AI developments from around the world. This involves monitoring a fast-moving landscape spanning AI regulation, litigation, investment, technology, infrastructure and governance, then selecting the stories most relevant to the firm’s audience.
I shape these findings into a concise, engaging editorial narrative- By incorporating expert perspectives from HSF Kramer partners and my own analysis, I also explain why each story matters to our audience and how they should respond.
Alongside the newsletter, I support the marketing team by writing long-form thought leadership and developing content for campaigns including Code≠Law. This involves interviewing partners and legal specialists across the firm’s international network, drawing out their perspectives and translating complex legal and regulatory developments into accessible, engaging articles.
For example, I interviewed lawyers across Europe, the UK, the US and Asia-Pacific for an article exploring how businesses can manage AI risk in an increasingly fragmented regulatory environment. Bringing together perspectives on AI governance, regulatory divergence, vendor accountability and copyright risk, the article is a practical guide for business leaders navigating the evolving AI landscape.
Results
In under two years, Behind the Prompt has grown from zero to 61,000 subscribers, giving HSF Kramer a valuable platform for sharing AI thought leadership.
The editorial content I’ve produced has also showcased the expertise of partners globally, positioning the firm as a leader across emerging areas of technology and law.
The work has also created a powerful route to lead-generation, allowing the marketing team to engage senior decision-makers in valuable commercial conversations about AI.
