Thought leadership that charts the shifting currents of global M&A
Ideals is a global software provider specialising in secure collaboration. Its offering spans two distinct areas:
- Ideals VDR provides virtual data room software for high-stakes transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, fundraising and IPOs. It gives deal teams a secure environment to share documents, manage due diligence and collaborate throughout the transaction process.
- Ideals Board provides board management software. It helps organisations streamline meeting preparation, distribute board materials, facilitate decision-making and manage governance processes.
Ideals also has a thought leadership presence through its M&A Community, which brings together insights for dealmakers.
Objectives
I work closely with the Head of Content and marketing team to:
- Build Ideals’ profile as a credible source of insight for M&A professionals and board leaders
- Grow engagement with dealmakers through flagship reports and content for the M&A Community
- Develop thought leadership on board effectiveness and governance, using webinars and expert perspectives to explore the challenges facing modern boards
- Make complex topics accessible and relevant to professional audiences, while strengthening the connection between Ideals’ expertise and its technology offering
My role
Researching and writing flagship M&A reports
I’ve written two flagship M&A thought leadership reports for Ideals:
This involved analysing proprietary virtual data room data alongside my own market research to identify trends and develop a compelling narrative. The topics I explored included global deal timelines, regional and sector differences, financing conditions, ESG considerations and the growing role of AI in transactions.
I’ve also written articles summarising the findings of these reports and setting out the practical implications for dealmakers:
- The new physics of M&A: What factors really impact deal speed?
- Global M&A is resilient despite 2025 disruptions: New research
- Why M&A timelines keep growing, and what might finally speed them up: New research
Following the success of this content, Ideals’ Head of Content also asked me to interview Jens Hohnwald, Director of Business Development for EMEA, and use his insights to write an article for M&A Review Magazine.
Developing a Board Excellence Series
I also support the Ideals Board Excellence Series, a curated selection of webinars featuring expert discussions and practical insights for board members and directors.
Part of my role involves reviewing hour-long webinars and strategically cutting them down to produce 15-minute bitesize videos for busy governance professionals.
I also produce follow-up blogs summarising the key takeaways from these webinars. Here are a few examples:
- Five ways to unlock value in board evaluations
- Five ways boards can strengthen their AI oversight
- Four key factors for improving board effectiveness
- Five ways to optimize the board-CEO relationship
Strengthening the website and product messaging
I’ve also helped update the Ideals website in line with a new brand identity. This included drafting feature-specific pages and FAQs, helping explain the benefits of the platform and make its value clearer to prospective customers.
Results
For over two years, I’ve helped Ideals build a consistent thought leadership presence across M&A and board governance, with a growing body of content to engage its professional audiences.
The two flagship M&A reports provided a platform for exploring the forces shaping global dealmaking. I turned the data and findings into clear, compelling narratives, then extended the content through launch articles for the Ideals website and M&A Community, as well as an article for M&A Review magazine.
The Board Excellence Series and supporting editorial content gave Ideals valuable opportunities to share their expert perspectives with articles that brought webinar discussions to a wider audience.
And finally, the website copy I developed helped Ideals communicate its offering more clearly, speaking directly to the needs of dealmakers and board professionals.
